KOTA BARU: The township of Tunjong, which is being developed by the Kelantan state government, has received overwhelming response from investors who are keen to participate in its development.

Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said this was a positive development in the state government's effort to make Tunjong a smart Islamic town, equipped with infrastructures to meet future needs of Kota Baru.

"The new township is designed to become a new development centre to house the state and federal administrations, a transportation and service centre, a commercial centre and residential areas.

"Tunjong is undergoing rapid development with the construction of several federal buildings and some investors have been given the green light to acquire land for the development," he said at the signing ceremony of the project between the state government, Kelantan Menteri Besar Incorporated (PMBK), Tunjong Development Corp Sdn Bhd (TDCSB) and 11 investors here on June 8.

Nik Aziz said several reputable investors had been chosen to develop Tunjong and they would begin work soon.

Meanwhile, State Economic Planning, Finance and Welfare Committee chairman Datuk Husam Musa said an autocity (a one-stop automotive centre), a food court and a housing area would be built in Tunjong to make the new township lively in the evening.

Situated five km from here, the 800ha Tunjong New Development Area is developed by TDCSB on behalf of PMBK since 2006. -- Bernama
