BATU PAHAT (Mar 6): The Orang Asli young generation will be given training in the construction field, including using the Industrialised Building System (IBS), which is cheaper and faster.

Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said with adequate training in this field, Orang Asli youths would be able to become building contractors, especially for projects under his ministry.

"And by using IBS, a house can be completed in a week instead of three weeks using the normal system," he said at the handing-out of keys to houses under the cluster settlement project in Kampung Sungai Banang, here, on Tuesday.

The project costing RM8.4 million and comprising 100 units of houses is for the resettlement of Orang Asli families who were previously staying in Minyak Beku.

Mohd Shafie said his ministry also provided 40 shoplots in Rengit, here, to be rented out to Orang Asli in the area at a low rental rate.

At the function, he also mentioned several infrastructural projects for the Batu Pahat district, including in Jalan Sungai Banang and a water supply project costing RM28.75 million and completed last year.

He said other projects costing RM44.3 million were being and would be implemented in the district, including the upgrading of the Kampung Linau road, repairing of houses and building of 17 additional houses costing RM680,000 under the Sungai Banang cluster settlement project. — Bernama
