KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Property Incorporated's (MPI) latest Malaysian real estate showcase called "The Best of Malaysian Real Estate 2010" held at the Chennai Trade Centre in Chennai, India, from Jan 22 to 24, has received encouraging response.

An MPI spokesperson told theedgeproperty.com that the exhibition attracted more than 4,000 visitors.

Among developers who participated were IJM Corp Bhd, Glomac Bhd, IOI Bhd, S P Setia Bhd, Flora Bliss (for The Pearl KLCC), and Matrix Concepts. Other participants include Zerin Properties, the Tourism Ministry, the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Secretariat and architectural firm Veritas.

No specific transactions were recorded but the spokesperson said there were some leads which the developers received for commercial developments on joint-venture basis, for purchase of land, for industrial and education centres.

“It was overall a great networking and branding exercise. Malaysia received really good exposure to the Indian market in terms of improved bilateral ties especially with our prime minister’s visit,” he said.

The next overseas MPI real estate showcase is unconfirmed. "We hope to follow the other government agencies, but we are seriously looking at Hong Kong, Singapore, United Kingdom, Japan, Korea and Indonesia," he said.

MPI is a joint public-private sector initiative that coordinates and promotes Malaysia’s real estate internationally. Launched in July last year with a target to attract RM20 bil in foreign direct investments in the local real estate sector over the next 10 years.
