RM24m refunded by Sarawak govt to property owners

SIBU (Apr 2): The state government has refunded a sum of RM24 million in premium overpayment to property owners statewide from October 2011 to March 22, 2012.

Assistant Minister Of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais said here on Monday the payment involved 2,822 residential and agricultural lots and shophouses.

For Sibu town, he said a total refund of RM7.1 million had been made to owners of 750 lots.

"Of the amont, RM1.3 million was paid last year and we are paying the balance of RM5.8 million on Monday.

"Today's payment, based on the old rate, is the last made to the affected town folks.

"The payment shows the government is sensitive to the needs of the people and listen to their concerns," he said.
