KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 (Bernama) -- The RM8.2 billion Mass Rapid Transit
(MRT) underground work package from Semantan in Damansara to Maluri in Cheras
has attained 30 per cent completion rate.
MMC-Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd Project Director Satpal S Bhogal said the work
progress include 9.5km tunnelling and seven underground stations.
"We are on track for completion within the timeframe. In some areas, we are
ahead of schedule," he told reporters at the launch of the tunnelling work for a
visitors' centre here today.
MMC-Gamuda is the contractor for the underground and tunnelling work
package.
Bhogal said currently the company was using two boring machines for
tunnelling work while another two machines are being assembled and are expected
to start digging next month.
He said there are two more machines in the company's inventory while four
more are expected to arrive later this year.
"There are five tunnelling sections, each section will be using two boring
machines," he said.
On the visitors' centre, Bhogal said, the centre was initiated to meet
growing demand from the public for information on the massive project.
"We receive an average of five to six group visit requests a month and we
would very much like to accommodate their interest in wanting to know and see
for themselves what is going on at the sites," he said.
He said the centre is open to the public through appointments with MMC
Gamuda public relations department by calling 1-800-82-6868 or 03-23858000.
