KUALA LUMPUR: Knight Frank Malaysia executive director Sarkunan Subramaniam will be promoted to managing director of the real estate consultancy effective Jan 1, 2013.

Sarkunan, who joined the firm in 2006 before he assumed his current position in 2008, will succeed current managing director Eric Ooi who will move on to become executive chairman of Knight Frank Malaysia, the company announced during its 10th anniversary dinner last week.

“I am honoured to have been chosen by my fellow directors to lead the firm from next year. It is our intention to grow this firm in a collaborative way, where ideas flourish and employees are rewarded and recognised as they invest their future in us,” he said.

Knight Frank Malaysia, incorporated locally as Ooi & Zaharin Sdn Bhd in 2002, had humble beginnings — it has grown from five staff to a 220-strong team headquartered in Menara IGB in Kuala Lumpur.

The firm’s birthday bash saw directors of Knight Frank’s offices from across the Asia-Pacific and heads of real estate developers among those present to celebrate the firm’s milestones.

Knight Frank UK senior partner Nick Thomlinson and Asia Pacific managing director Clive Betts also gave congratulatory speeches that night.

Guests were serenaded by musician Genervie Kam and her band, before enjoying an entertaining show by the Comedy Court.
