HULU TERENGGANU (April 17): The Terengganu government is distributing land to the people in the state through the Terengganu People Land Democratisation system.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahamd Said said the state government policy would provide a residential or agriculture lot to each Terengganu-born family who do not own land.

"Each family who applies will be given either a residential or agriculture lot spanning two acres with the condition that they (husband or wife) have no land," he told reporters after speaking at a land ownership grant distribution ceremony involving 1,372 recipients from Hulu Terengganu, here on Tuesday.

Ahmad said the government is aware that land is an important asset and therefore would like state residents to get a share through the democratisation system.

Meanwhile, recipient Mokhtar Said, 62, from Ajil, here, said he was happy to have received land from the government.

"I'm happy as I've waited 15 years for this land. With the 0.8094 hectares I got, I can plant vegetables to increase my family's income," he added.

Another recipient, Hitam Mohamad, 70, from Kampung Peneh, here, said his five-year wait for agriculture land was finally over.

"I am grateful for the land and will plant fruits and vegetables for my children and grandchildren to enjoy later," he said. — Bernama
