PETALING JAYA: Space U8 will be officially opened to the public in September 2010. However, a soft launch event for invited guests is being planned in conjunction with the Soccer World Cup tournament in July.

Developed by Mainstay Development Sdn Bhd, the project in Bukit Jelutong, Selangor, which adopts the Shop Unit Mall Office (SUMO) concept, has a gross development value of RM220 million.

Mainstay’s executive chairman Raja Mohd Azmi Raja Razali said Space U8 will host some crowd-pulling events during the World Cup period and expects to attract some 1,000 guests to the events. He was clarifying an earlier report that said the development will open in July.

To date, some 75% of the retail component has been leased and the company expects full tenancy by May 2010

The 4-storey commercial project, with a built-up of 700,000 sq ft, is built on a hybrid concept of dual frontage, featuring shopoffices on the outer frontage with an inner façade of retail outlets.

The project also sports a unique green feature -- about 220,000 tyres were installed in the foundation of the premises, which allows Space U8 to maintain a comfortable 27 degree Celsius throughout the day. The layout design is also disabled-friendly.
