Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) director of enforcement Datuk Mohd Roslan Mahayudin said companies that managed such businesses were given a two-month leeway so they could make the necessary price adjustments from the previous goods and services tax (GST) to the SST, which was implemented on Sept 1.
Asked whether the Government is confident that it can convince the Opposition MPs to support the amendments as some of them may need a two-thirds majority vote, Dr Mahathir said he believes that there will be sufficient interest among them.
"However, if growth conditions improve significantly due to a more benign external economic environment, dynamic domestic growth and a stronger ringgit, the target of achieving a high-income status may be realised earlier."
Nevertheless, greater adoption of the industrialised building system and ongoing civil engineering projects such as the Mass Rapid Transit Line 2 (MRT2) and the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC) in Johor, are expected to contribute to the growth of this sector, according to the Mid-Term Review of the 11th Malaysia Plan (2016-2020) released today.
According to the report, the new measurement for crime index is based on the number of reported index crime cases and should not exceed the threshold of 342 cases per 100,000 population by 2020. The new target, which sets the baseline at 352 cases per 100,000 population in 2016, will take into account population increase, in line with international practice.

The review said the focus will be given priority to the people-centric projects. With that, over 4,000 ongoing projects will still be continued across the nation including the building of affordable houses, schools, hospitals and roads.
