Partially residential and partially commercial, it is located adjacent to several other neighbourhoods bearing the name “Gemilang”, such as Taman Gemilang Jaya, Taman Seri Gemilang and Taman Gemilang Permai. Properties in Taman Gemilang comprise double-storey terrace houses, many of which have long driveways, and double-storey retail lots. While the main town of Bukit Mertajam is about 3 to 4 km away from Taman Gemilang, the neighbourhood is even nearer to the town of Bandar Baru Perda, giving it easy access to a wide range of facilities, including two major hospitals – KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital and Hospital Bukit Mertajam – local governmental buildings, and supermarkets such as Mydin Mall Bukit Mertajam and Econsave Bukit Mertajam. There is also a strong student presence in the area, as there are several schools and higher education facilities around Taman Gemilang. For example, the KPJ International College, Two Studio Multimedia Academy, SK Kebun Sireh, SK and SMK Convent (M) Bukit Mertajam, SMK Bukit Mertajam and Jit Sin Independent High School. In the nearby commercial complex of Taman Mutiara a mere 1.5km away, residents will be able to find a good number of basic necessities and amenities, be it banks, stationery shops, optical stores, mini marts, cafes, hair salons, convenience stores and auto service centres. Taman Gemilang can be accessed via several modes of transport, namely buses, trains and cars. All it takes is a 500m or 6-minute walk to reach the nearest bus stop, where one can take the Rapid Penang bus 802 all the way to Nibong Tebal, while the Bukit Tengah railway station is about 3km away. Also, it is easy to get to the major road of Jalan Kebun Sireh that leads to the trunk road of Jalan Bukit Tengah, which in turn leads to other states in Peninsular Malaysia.
