Cheras is a suburban area located in the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur. It is nestled in the southeast region of the city. It borders Ampang to the north and Kajang to the south. Both these cities are well established in the metropolitan vicinity of Kuala Lumpur, making Cheras a particularly progressive township.
Cheras facilitates a significant number of housing estates and shopping centres and is well linked with expressways and multiple trunk roads. A separate township called the Pekan Batu 9 Cheras, residing just 2 kilometres away from the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur is situated within the area too. Hence property in the area is in high demand by families and city workers alike.
Governed by the administration of Majlis Perbandaran Kajang (Kajang Municipal Council), Cheras is among the six sub-districts of Hulu Langat. And according to a poll done in 2000, relative to the other six, Cheras has the highest population density.
