Sri Hartamas is an upscale suburb, which lies to the west of Kuala Lumpur. Located between Kepong and KL city centre, little infrastructure used to be available in the area. However, it gained popularity during the Asian boom in the mid 1990s. Sri Hartamas quickly became very popular, not only with the Malaysian young professionals, but also with expatriate families, mostly from Australia, Japan, South Korea, China, Britain and mainland Europe. The expatriate community represents about 30% of the population in the area.

Now, Sri Hartamas is one of the hotspots in KL due to the neighbouring Mont’Kiara developments that quickly followed in the area. The homes in Sri Hartamas consist of low-rise condominiums, townhouses, serviced apartments, courtyard villas, semi-detached link houses and bungalows that exude old-world charm. Among the developers that contributed to the growth of Sri Hartamas are Glomac Bhd, Malaysia Land Properties Sdn Bhd, Sunway City Bhd and Kiara Seleksi Sdn Bhd.


Amenities and Facilities

Sri Hartamas is home to many government and private schools from kindergartens to colleges such as Garden International School, Sri Cempaka International School and Mont Kiara International school. Taylor’s University College Sri Hartamas and SRI College are also within short driving distance. The amenities and conveniences reflect the upscale demographic, a sharp contrast to other areas of KL. For instance, a nursery in Sri Hartamas, aside from childcare, offers introductory classes in French.

Although largely residential, Sri Hartamas is now an entertaining, vibrant community.  The sleek malls and trendy restaurants appeal to higher-income residents especially urbanites with a penchant for posh lifestyles. The most attractive aspect of Sri Hartamas is the wide range of restaurants and bars that have developed around the shopping area. Offering a wide variety of international food relatively cheaply, residents can enjoy a good food court and a multitude of Korean, Japanese, Thai and Malaysian restaurants.

Other amenities nearby include KL Golf and Country Club (KLGCC), Royal Selangor Club Kiara Sports Annexe and Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club, which offers horse riding, polo and other equestrian activities. The Hartamas Shopping Centre (housed inside Plaza Damas) is the area's biggest shopping mall with 1 Mont Kiara a short distance away.

One of the biggest and most beautiful mosques in Kuala Lumpur, The Federal Territory Mosque or Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan is also located nearby.


Accessibility and transportation

Sri Hartamas had to give up some of its greenery, the trademark of the area, when access to a third expressway, Kerinchi Link, was open.

Geographically, it is advantageously located very close to the intersection of four major highways and several major roads, namely the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Sistem Penyuraian Trafik KL Barat (SPRINT) Highway, Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) and Penchala Link. A direct access to Jalan Duta enables residents to reach Jalan Kuching and head to the city centre.

In terms of public transportation, Sri Hartamas is served by the Segambut KTM Komuter station. From the station, commuters can utilise the rapidKL bus route 190 to Sri Hartamas and Mont’Kiara, located 5 to 20 minutes’ drive away depending on traffic conditions.
