Taman Tun Dr Ismail, commonly known as TTDI, is a self-contained upper middle-class township located on the western fringe of Kuala Lumpur, which borders the state of Selangor. TTDI is named after Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman, the second deputy prime minister of Malaysia, while many of the roads within TTDI are named after prominent Malaysian leaders.

Formerly a rubber estate spanning 286 hectares, TTDI was developed in 1974 by a joint venture between Urban Development Authority (UDA) and SEA Housing Corp Sdn Bhd to produce residential homes and a small parcel of commercial development. The outstanding urban planning and redevelopment efforts of TTDI has been recognised with the prestigious FIABCI Award of Distinction for Residential Property in 1994.

The strategic location of TTDI between KL and Selangor places it near matured townships such as Bandar Utama, Damansara Utama and Mutiara Damansara in Petaling Jaya as well as Bukit Kiara, Sri Hartamas, Bangsar and Damansara Heights in KL. The appeal of TTDI as a residential neighbourhood lies in the fact that it holds a KL address yet serenely tucked away in a quiet enclave.

TTDI comprises freehold properties, which are mostly single-storey and double-storey terraced houses, townhouses and condominiums on more than half of the land area, while the rest of the land is designated for public amenities – banks, eateries, schools and public parks such as Taman Lembah Kiara and Taman Rimba Kiara.

TTDI’s location on the border of KL and Selangor offers ease of accessibility via the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), Penchala Link and Jalan Damansara. The recently completed TTDI MRT station serves as one of the stations along the Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line, supported by feeder buses linking the station with the neighbourhoods of TTDI.

Prime KL address

Property values in TTDI have skyrocketed since its early days. Single storey terraced houses that were going for around RM34,000 in 1975 are today fetching between RM900,000 and RM1.2 million, depending on their location and extent of renovation. While double storey homes are priced upwards of RM1 million, from about RM70,000 in the 1970s.

As there is very little undeveloped land in TTDI, not many new projects can be developed in the area. However, this prestigious residential neighbourhood with a KL address offers a wide range of amenities and facilities. Thus, demand for property outstrips supply here.

Besides the many attractive features, TTDI offers a pleasant living environment with its greenery. Additionally, property prices here are more affordable than that in Bukit Damansara, Bangsar and Bukit Tunku. Condominiums are mainly low-rise and low-density, plus the whole township is freehold.

Amenities and Facilities

The township is equipped with a wide array of community facilities to serve its residents, including the Taman Lembah Kiara, a community centre, library and multipurpose hall as well as the SK Taman Tun Dr Ismail 1, SK Taman Tun Dr Ismail 2 and SMK Taman Tun Dr Ismail schools.

TTDI is located a few minutes away from shopping centres such as 1 Utama Shopping Centre, The Curve, IKEA Damansara and Tropicana City Mall, whereas the commercial centre within TTDI offers a wide selection of restaurants, cafes, banks, convenience stores and more. Within the township is a large wet market while the KPJ Damansara Specialist Centre is also nearby at Damansara Kim.
