Taman U-Thant

 

Overview

Taman U-Thant is located in the eastern part of Kuala Lumpur city. It was established in the 1960s solely for all the foreign embassies and high commissions and named after the former United Nations General Secretary (1961-1971 term) U Thant, who was of Burmese nationality.

It is strategically located on Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Ampang and is Kuala Lumpur city centre. This quiet area is very green with many raintree trees.

Accessibility and Transportation

Taman U-Thant can be accessed via the Ampang Park, Damai and Jelatek LRT stations and it is serviced by RapidKL bus services.

Amenities and Facilities

There are various learning academies nearby, such as the SRJK (C) Chung Hwa, SMK (P) Puteri Ampang, Malaysia Institute of Management and international schools like Sayfol International. The German institute, Goethe Institute, is also located nearby.

Shopping malls in close proximity to Taman U-Thant include Suria KLCC, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Avenue K and Great Eastern Mall. 

Medical centres nearby include Prince Court Medical Centre, Gleneagles Medical Centre and Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital.

Nearby recreational spots include the KLCC Park, Raintree Club, and Selangor Polo and Equestrian Club. The Royal Selangor Golf Club, a key landmark of the area, may soon be demolished as the government plans to turn the private club into a public recreation club.

Specialty grocers such as Hock Choon’s and the Ampang Grocers stocks imported groceries and numerous international fine dining restaurants to cater to the affluent and international residents in the area.

Property Development

Some notable developments in Taman U-Thant are Madge Mansions - a low density residential development of 52 units surrounded by foreign embassies; 7 U Thant - 1,040 units of luxurious residential units over 41 floors; 16 U Thant - consisting of 12 duplex apartments; and M-Suites at Embassy Row, high-end serviced residential suites developed by Mah Sing Group Bhd.
