Telok Panglima Garang

Overview

Teluk Panglima Garang (TPG) is a mukim (a subdivision of a district) in Kuala Langat District, Selangor. It is a town that lies between Banting and Klang in Selangor. The Telok Panglima Garang Free Trade Zone (FTZ) is located here. This industrial area is situated about 17km north of Banting and 16km south of Klang, and was developed in the mid-1990s to cater to the needs of investors who had been invited to invest in the state.

Unfortunately though, the development of this area also gave rise to many illegal factories from around Sungai Langat, Klang River, Banting and Klang. Nonetheless, the FTZ has created many job opportunities for locals in the manufacturing of electronic components and car parts industries.

There are several housing areas here, namely Taman Dato Hormat where one can see double-storey terrace freehold homes, and Telok Mengkuang residential area which features single-storey terrace freehold tenure homes in a pet- and eco-friendly environment.

Though TPG seems small and out-of-the-way, the availability of ample land for sale here makes it highly potent for growth and advancement. For a start, Bandar Rimbayu has drawn much attention with its beautifully designed gated-and-guarded community.  Developed by IJM Land with a gross development value of RM11 billion, the ongoing development consists of residential, commercial and recreational components spread over four precincts – Flora, Fauna, Bayu and the commercial hub.   

In addition, Eco Sanctuary is an eco-inspired mixed residential and commercial development by Eco World Development Group Bhd. Sandwiched between IJM Land’s Bandar Rimbayu and Tropicana Corp Bhd’s Tropicana Aman, this entire project aimed at turning this location into a luxury enclave is expected to be completed in 2022. One can expect to find homes incorporating intelligent and sustainable elements in the form of semi-dees, zero-lot bungalows, bungalows, double-storey terrace houses and condominium within gated-and-guarded enclaves.

Meanwhile, Tropicana Aman is to be a self-contained mixed township of residential, commercial and open parkland components across 860 acres in a gated-and-guarded enclave. Tenby International School, offering an international syllabus, is part of the central education theme here and will begin by September 2018.

 

Amenities and Facilities

Amenities around the area of TPG are surprisingly ample mainly because of the FTZ here. For instance, the biggest factory in the area is Japan’s Renesas Semiconductor KL Sdn Bhd. Established in 1974, it provides employee training programmes to many locals working here.

Another is the Malaysian subsidiary of DSG International (Thailand), a company established in 1994 and listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. It relocated to its fully integrated warehouse and production facilities in TPG. These factories have led to the growth of a host of educational facilities for the convenience of the residents here. They include play schools, preschools, and public schools for both primary and secondary levels as well as Islamic schools.

TPG is currently served by five public health facilities. More important medical needs and treatments are assisted by Hospital Besar Banting. Also, there are petrol stations, food outlets as well as restaurants for social occasions, a wet market for fresh produce and government facilities.

With the objective of building and fostering a close-knit neighbourhood, the township’s social hub – The ARC, which currently holds a green roof deck and football field, is segregated into three separate zones – club facilities, active functions and events, and communal activities. By completion in 2018, it will house a wide spectrum of lifestyle amenities including an Olympic-size swimming pool, a gym and dance studio, badminton and squash courts, family karaoke, and cafeteria. There will also be free fitness activities such as Zumba, stretching and toning, and kids’ boot camp held every Sunday at The ARC for residents and the public.

 

Accessibility and Transportation

Telok Panglima Garang lies on the much-used Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), enroute to Port Klang and Pulau Carey, so it is commonly a rest stop for those travelling to and from those areas. In fact, it serves as the site that connects to Pulau Carey via a bridge. The Kemuning Shah Alam Expressway (LKSA) links it to Subang, Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Puchong, Shah Alam and even the city centre.

Meanwhile, since 2012, the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) connects this town to Cyberjaya, Putrajaya and Kajang. Yet another highway, the Expressway Lingkaran Tengah (ELITE) enables access to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The progressing West Coast Expressway (WCE), which will stretch from Taiping, Perak to Banting, Selangor will see greater connectivity to TPG.
