Overview
The Pontian district is located southwest in the state of Johor. Interestingly enough, the name Pontian is used in both the names of Pontian Besar and Pontian Kechil, which are the names of two towns in this district. The latter which is approximately 60 kilometres from Johor Bahru and 70 kilometres from Singapore also serves as the district’s capital. Pontian Kechil was previously a fishing village, however it has now developed into a small town.

Pontian and the areas surrounding it regularly draw in visitors for the array of fresh seafood. In fact, Kukup, a fishing village located about 20 kilometres from Pontian Kechil also regularly attracts visitors from near and afar.
The other noteworthy towns in Pontian are Ayer Baloi and Benut, north of Pontian Kechil.
