About Taman Sri Gombak

Nestled 15 minutes’ drive North-East of Kuala Lumpur, Taman Sri Gombak (TSG), is a large 9-phased residential and commercial township established in the 1980s. With Taman Sahabat, Prima Sri Gombak, and Taman Pinggiran surrounding this scheme, it’s home to hundreds if not thousands of families and working adults. A lower-middleclass to middleclass area, it’s well supported by its own commercial centre as well as by Prima Sri Gombak, a ‘hot spot’ commercial area also. Prima Sri Gombak also has a light-industrial section that offers services like car spray painting, tyre shops and car repairs, as well as many other varieties of workshops and small factory type lots. There are mainly 2-storey terrace homes of varying sizes, low-cost flats, serviced apartments, semi-detached homes and shop-office lots in TSG. It has ‘green lung’ areas, within it, like Taman Tasik Sri Gombak, and nearby it, like Batu Caves’s cliff-like hills, and in the North, the huge natural forest reserves and the green mountain range of the central Malaysian peninsula. But because of its hilly topography, this development is prone to soil erosion which can be a nuisance if not detrimental. Many houses here have had major extensions to enlarge them especially the ones belonging to the smaller sized housing phases. The streets amongst the houses are mainly narrow with little or no nature strips and in many cases the nature strips are cemented over, while roads at the same time are not well maintained. The trees and palms planted along certain spots lining the streets are unattractive and not well looked after. There are quite a few round-shaped concrete tank reservoirs built on the natural green hilly slopes over the years to supply water with pressure-head to the residents here. All in, TSG is a thriving and matured scheme that has benefitted from, if not, experienced a resurgence because of, Prima Sri Gombak, its newer and ‘happening’ neighbour. TSG has a commercial centre in its southern end while a few single rows of shops are strategically located in other sections. Banks like Maybank, Public Bank, Hong Leong Bank, HSBC and CIMB bank, together with restaurants like Mcdonald’s, Nandos, Secret Recipe, Texas Chicken, KFC, Pizza Hut, Pappa Rich, Oldtown White Coffee, and many more, are spread-out over Prima Sri Gombak’s and TSG’s own commercial centres. There is a futsal centre, Post office, night and wet markets within TSG and also a Police station besides the Sinamax Badminton Court, adjacent to it, along Lebuh Utama Sri Gombak. Schools like SK Taman Sri Gombak 1 & 2, SMK Hillcrest and Baseerah International School are located within or nearby this development. There is a huge multi-purpose city hall facility, in the heart of TSG, by the name of Dewan Beringin of Taman Seri Gombak, that caters to the social events and sporting (badminton) needs of the residents of this area. Giant Hypermarket is located just across the MRR2-Highway at Taman Batu Caves and can be reached easily by using a turnpike or by crossing the flyover across the highway from TSG. Prices of properties at TSG have seen some good appreciation, since the 1990s, but have gone down slightly in late 2016 to April 2017. TSG is easily accessible by way of Lebuh Utama Sri Gombak that links to the MRR2 at its southern tip and which also passes through Kampung Wira Damai - Batu Caves, at its North-Western corner. Jalan Muhibbah and Jalan Permai both have bus services servicing the serene areas around TamanTasik Sri Gombak and other green forests there including the housing sections.
