Overview
Banting is a rest town located in the district of Kuala Langat, Selangor in Malaysia. Banting has undergone rapid development since its inception. The type of land in the area is most suitable for the planting of paddy. According to local folklore, the name 'Banting' came from a type of buffalo used in paddy-planting in that area during that era; "banteng" which is believed to be physically superior to those from other families.
And it was claimed that farmers in the area yield more crop than their peers from other places, who began flocking here when they heard of this; who in turn necessitated the establishment of a small town. Due to the huge number of the dark-skinned "banteng" buffaloes wandering the streets at that time, the town was called Banting up to this very day.
Banting is situated on the banks of Langat River (known as Sungai Langat in Malay). Banting is also located near the beaches of Morib, as well as hills, forest and farms. It is an agricultural hub and its main agricultural resources include oil palm plantaions, poultry farms, betel leaves and also houses a number of industrial areas. It is also known due to it being the hometown of the famous Malaysia badminton player, Rashid Sidek.
Accessibility and Transportation
The biggest town closest to Banting is Klang town. There are 4 major highways linking to Klang. The North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) links the Bukit Raja toll plaza in Klang to the North-South Highway. Driving from Shah Alam, Subang, Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur, drivers can use the Federal Highway to reach Klang. You can also use the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS highway) to reach Klang South. The South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) links Kajang to Pulau Indah. Alternatively, Klang is also accessible via coastal roads from Banting and Sepang (south) or Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam (north).
Banting is also rapidly growing as a town because the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is 30 minutes drive away.
Places of Attraction
One of the places of interest near to Banting town, specifically in Jenjarom is the FGS Dong Zen Temple. FGS stands for Fo Guang Shan. It is a large Buddhist religious, cultural and educational complex. The buildings are fairly modern with a pleasant atmosphere. It is definitely worth a visit if you are passing that area.
