James Tee

PETALING JAYA (April 11): Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd has appointed Dr James Tee (pictured) as its new managing director and CEO with effect from April 10, 2017 according to a press statement today.

Tee’s appointment follows the recent departure of former managing director and CEO Datuk Khairil Anwar Ahmad, who has taken on a new role as president and CEO of Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB), since Nov 1, 2016.

IIB is the catalytic developer for Iskandar Malaysia and is one of the shareholders of Medini Iskandar Malaysia. Other shareholders include Mitsui & Co Ltd and United World Infrastructure Ltd.

Tee had previously served as the executive director of UOA Holdings Sdn Bhd and UOA Asset Management Sdn Bhd. He has also been the CEO of GLM Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) Management Sdn Bhd under the Hong Leong Group. Prior to his appointment, he was the CEO of Setia Awan Group. He was also the group COO of Kurnia Asia Bhd.

Tee graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree from University Teknologi Malaysia in Skudai, Johor, before earning his PhD in Materials Science and Metallurgy from University of Cambridge, UK.

He is a registered Graduate Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia and a member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation. Tee has also served as the Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian REIT Managers Association.

“We are pleased to welcome James [Tee] to Medini Iskandar Malaysia and we are confident that with his broad experience, he will further drive Medini Iskandar’s position as the upcoming central business district for Iskandar Puteri and Johor south,” said Medini Iskandar Malaysia chairman Jamil Hajar Abdul Muttalib.

Medini Iskandar Malaysia is the master developer of the 2,230-acre Medini, a sustainable city being developed in Iskandar Puteri, Johor. It focuses on commercial developments including placemaking initiatives. So far it has delivered at least 200,000 sq ft of gross floor area of office space in the prime areas of Medini. About 3.7 million sq ft of premier office space will be rolled out in the next five years.
