KUALA LUMPUR (July 13): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak expects the Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) MRT line, which will start operating on July 17, to encourage more to use public transport.

Najib said this on his website today following his visit and train ride on the MRT SBK line.

“I believe this will encourage road users to choose public transport. The MRT also connects popular tourist destinations such as the National Museum, Bukit Bintang and the Central Market,” said Najib.

It was earlier reported that the SBK line will serve over 500,000 passengers. Each train is capable of accommodating 1,200 people at a time.

Meanwhile, Najib said today the SBK line will be part of a modern transport system that connects the entire Klang Valley, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

The second phase comprising the Semantan-Kajang route will complete the 51km MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line and is strategically located in a high-traffic area requiring city rail services like Kajang and Cheras.

The MRT was also built to integrate with commuter, LRT and Monorail stations to enhance connectivity for commuters.

Najib added that the National Museum Station is connected to KL Sentral via a comfortable 240-metre long pedestrian route.

On his ride on the MRT, Najib said he had the opportunity to experience the comfort of an interchange bus service which cost RM1 only.

Najib added: “Who knows...one day we may have a bus without drivers like our MRT."

The Prime Minister commended the work done to complete the MRT line, adding that it is of world-class standards.— theedgemarkets.com
