PETALING JAYA (Aug 26): Design Village Penang, the only outlet mall in the northern region, has unveiled its 16,000 sq ft food hall on Aug 24.

Built within 2-storey shop lots, The Food Bazaar is designed by award-winning Blu Water Studio to offer an experience that evokes a feeling of nostalgia.

The hall is decorated with enormous lanterns and refashioned 1960s vintage posters that suspend in various sizes throughout the food hall, sketches of hawker stalls, old biscuit tins and Milo tins, evoking that feeling of being in a “kopitiam”.

While the food hall is a reminder of the past, the design also explores the “old” in the contemporary context, thus creating a new exciting experience for diners. There is also a children’s play area.

The Food Bazaar offers varied cuisine from local Penang delights like Char Kuey Teow, Assam Laksa and Prawn Noddle, to Western Food and Arab Rice from Kuching.

More food and beverage outlets will be added in future to the current restaurants which include Dave’s Deli, Make Make, Fa Ying and Morning After X.

Sitting on a 25-acre site in Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan, Design Village has 150 retail outlets comprising a mix of international and home-grown brands. The single-storey open-air mall also features weather-sheltered walkways, parks and a children’s playground.

In the fashion category, the retail mix ranges from international brands such as Coach, Kipling, Sacoor Brothers, Guess, Superdry, Esprit and Cotton On, to regional brands such as Bonia, Sembonia, Carlo Rino, Padini and Brands Outlet.

In the sports category, the outlet features the largest Adidas outlet store and other brands such as Puma, Converse, Everlast, Sketchers, Royal Sporting House and Italia Sportivo.

For other lifestyle categories, there is a flagship Toyworld outlet, as well as Poney and Cotton On Kids for the younger customers.

Going forward, the outlet will also have the largest Brands Value Outlet for everyday shopping, an Akemiuchi outlet, Beauty Scents, the Cosmetics Company, Hush Puppy, Obermain, Samsonite, Bratpack, Timberland and others.
