KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 10): Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Deputy Minister, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, told Parliament today that the country has 51 ailing rivers, reported Bernama today.

To rehabilitate rivers, a number of ways are being taken with the Department of Environment (DOE) such as better enforcement and monitoring, awareness programmes and integrated efforts with local authorities.

"The DOE also conducts operations with related agencies and local councils to improve the conservation of polluted rivers, DOE also conducts environmental partnerships and local lawmakers. Environmental lectures are also conducted," she said.

In the meantime, she said the proposal to create a blueprint (master plan) to address the problem would be brought to the ministry level, reported Astro Awani.
