PETALING JAYA (March 24): The implementation of movement control order (MCO) by the authorities may have stopped people from socialising but it doesn’t stop the burglars from taking their chances on those who are away from home.

According to a news report by China Press, a house in Taman Kulai Jaya in Kulai, Johor, was broken into by burglars, knowing the owners of the property were prohibited from coming home due to the MCO.

The owner’s sister Miss Loh told the press that her sister and sister-in-law who works in Singapore and commute back home every day before the MCO was implemented.

After their routine was disrupted by the restriction order, the owner asked the members of the family who stayed nearby to check on their house whenever possible.

“However, yesterday when my brother dropped by their place, we were shocked to see the door was already opened and the house was in a mess. But luckily, the thieves only took some money and not the electrical appliances and the furniture,” she said, adding that she has reported to police.

After posting her story on social media, there are netizens who are worried that burglars may not be searching for money but the face masks in the house; there were also comments from netizens, reminding Miss Loh to sanitise the house over concerns that the burglars might be virus carriers.
