KUALA LUMPUR (May 5): There are no enhanced movement control order (EMCO) placed on Selayang and Chow Kit as reported by the media today, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob clarified.

He ensured that no place can be placed under EMCO unless “he himself” makes an official announcement, the Malay Mail reported him saying during a media conference.

“Not yet, as long as I have not made the announcement, there is no EMCO. However, there is an administrative restriction there. Maybe we control it with barbed wires and such but we have not declared those areas as EMCO.

“But there is tighter control to going in and out of those areas. And we are also conducting swab tests for every resident in that area even though it is still under administrative control,” said Ismail Sabri.

It was reported earlier that the Health Ministry announced that three new areas -- Taman Wilayah and Taman Desa Bakti in Selayang, and Jalan Raja Bot in Chow Kit market have been placed under EMCO.

Residents of the affected places posted images on social media of soldiers cordoning off the areas and installing barbed wires very early this morning, prompting reports of the return of EMCO.

Pasar Raja Bot was closed last week for disinfection and sanitisation by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has already begun testing traders, workers and residents around the market area for Covid-19.
