KUALA LUMPUR (March 18): The police have dismissed claims that people who wear sunglasses while driving will be given a RM500 compound.

According to a report by The Star today, Bukit Aman Traffic and Enforcement Department (JSPT) deputy director Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Nadzri Hussain said an audio clip distributed via WhatsApp claimed that car or lorry drivers who wear sunglasses will be slapped with a RM500 compound.

"The person in the audio clip also claimed that he was fined for such an offence. These claims are not true and totally baseless," Mohd Nadzri said in a statement today which was reported by the daily.

He added that there is no provision in the law stating that it is an offence to wear sunglasses while driving.
