PETALING JAYA (May 19): An interstate tour trip to Genting Highlands from Kedah that took place back in mid-April “has spawned” a Covid-19 cluster, Harian Metro reported today.
Kedah health and local government exco Dr Mohd Hayati Othman told the Malay language daily that 16 people who have been infected “were traced” to the travel group.
"The Dah Lengkuas cluster involved travel by bus to Genting Highlands under the tourism bubble.
"After they returned, the group went for Covid-19 testing and initially, seven people were tested positive," Mohd Hayati said.
He added that only one busload of travellers is “under investigation at present”.
"I was informed by the Kedah Health Department that it only involves one bus but we will trace all close contacts," Mohd Hayati said.
The government had allowed on March 9 that interstate tourism was allowed if states are under the recovery movement control order (RMCO).
Malaysiakini reported that at the time the Genting trip, Kedah and Pahang were under the RMCO.
