KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 3): Mitsui Shopping Park at the LaLaport Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) will be hosting an exhibition entitled “teamLab: Resonating Microcosms” from tomorrow until Nov 30.

The exhibition will comprise light artworks where “visitors will be immersed in its transformation by the presence of people and the environment of nature”, according to a statement from the organiser teamLab Works.

The exhibition will showcase “Resonating Microcosms — Liquified Light Colour, Sunrise and Sunset” and “Resonating Trees”.

teamLab stated that there will be Rooftop Garden featuring “countless ovoids”.

“As the sun sets, the ovoids begin to shine by themselves. When an ovoid is pushed by a person, blown by the wind, or hit by rain, it shines brightly and emits a sound tone as it rises back up on its own. The ovoids around it also respond one after another, resonating out the same sound tone and light colour.

“The surrounding Resonating Trees also respond and change continuously,” teamLab explained.

teamLab said that it “is experimenting with the concept of colour. The ovoids can change into a total of 57 newly-defined Liquified Light Colours.”

The exhibition can “interactively” transform “under the influence of the wind, rain, and the behaviour of the people in the space, making the environment and the people a part of the work”.

LaLaport BBCC is a commercial facility that opened in Kuala Lumpur in January 2022.

Meanwhile, teamLab is has held numerous exhibitions at venues such as New York, London, Paris, Singapore, Silicon Valley, Beijing, and Melbourne among others as well as large-scale permanent exhibitions in Shanghai, Macao, Tokyo, and Singapore.

teamLab is an international art collective made up of interdisciplinary specialists such as artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, and architects, “whose collaborative practice seeks to navigate the confluence of art, science, technology, and the natural world”, it said.

It has seen up to 28 million visitors to its art exhibitions worldwide.
