Named after the Sepang tree (Pokok Sepang) found in abundance in the area, Sepang is a district in the state of Selangor and located 50km south of Kuala Lumpur. Formerly based in Sepang town, the capital of Sepang district has been moved to Salak Tinggi.
The unique geographical location of Sepang borders with Petaling to the north, Hulu Langat to the northeast, the state of Negeri Sembilan to the east, and Kuala Langat to the west. Sepang fronts the Straits of Malacca in the southwest and also surrounds the Federal Territory of Putrajaya.
Spanning about 50,000 acres, Sepang was initially a small town surrounded by flat land filled with palm oil plantations. The rapid development of Sepang began in 2000 when the district was earmarked as the new international aviation hub, which now houses Sepang’s most famous landmarks – KL International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2.
Apart from the two airports, other main draws to Sepang are the Sepang International Circuit, which is home of the Malaysian Grand Prix and attracts thousands of visitors a year, and the Avani Sepang Gold Coast Resort in Bagan Lalang. Located within the Sepang district is Cyberjaya, which forms a part of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC Malaysia) and is commonly referred to as the Silicon Valley of Malaysia.
The presence of such mega infrastructures has undeniably led to the entry of housing developments to cater to the growing population of Sepang. More and more townships are making their way to Sepang, offering a multitude of developments ranging from landed residential properties to high-rise condominiums to integrated commercial units. Despite the swift urbanisation within the Sepang growth corridor, multiple villages can still be found in the vicinity of Sepang, particularly around the plantation land.

Accessibility to Sepang has improved by leaps and bounds with the presence of the international airports. It is well-connected to major expressways such as North South Expressway Central Link (ELITE), Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS), South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), Kajang-Seremban Highway (LEKAS), Maju Expressway (MEX) and Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP). The KLIA Ekspres links KL Sentral in KL directly with KLIA and KLIA2 in just 33 minutes, while the KLIA Transit stops at the Salak Tinggi and Cyberjaya stations within the Sepang district.
