PETALING JAYA (Dec 9): Sunway Velocity Mall in Cheras is aiming for 100% occupancy by 2H2017, said Sunway Malls and Theme Parks CEO HC Chan at the soft opening of the mall yesterday.
According to Chan, the tenancy sign-up to date is 95% and as of yesterday, 75% of the shops were already opened.
He expected the figure to rise to 80% by the end of this month, and 90% of the shops to be opened by 1Q2017.
The 7-storey Sunway Velocity is part of the 23-acre Sunway Velocity integrated development with a gross development value of RM4.5 billion. It has six business components altogether — mall, residences, hotel, office tower, retail shops and a medical centre.
The hotel is scheduled to open in 2017, followed by the medical centre in 2018, said Chan.
“Beginning today, Sunway has a portfolio of five malls in Malaysia, with a strong presence in key high growth and urbanised markets.
“Sunway Velocity Mall marks our second presence after our maiden foray into Kuala Lumpur’s mall scene more than a year ago with Sunway Putra Mall,” said Chan in his speech during the soft opening.
With 1 million sq ft of retail space, the mall’s key tenants include AEON MaxValu Prime, TGV Cinemas, Parkson, Uniqlo, Harvey Norman, Home’s Harmony and Chi-X Fitness.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with the holiday season, the mall will run a “Santa City” Christmas campaign together with a Spend and Win programme from Dec 8, 2016 to Feb 12, 2017.
Prizes include a Volvo V40, a fully paid trip for two to South Korea by Always 21, Gintell De’Wise Butterfly Care massage chair, and a Celistar Diamond Ring by SK Jewellery.
The mall has also decided to provide an extra treat for the soft opening campaign called the “Everything 8 for 8 Days” promotion where deals are set at astonishing prices of RM0.80, RM8, RM80 and more. The promotion runs until Dec 15, 2016.
The mall will also be accessible via the Maluri LRT interchange station and the upcoming Cochrane and Maluri MRT stations.
