Fort Bishangarh

PETALING JAYA (Dec 13): Alila Fort Bishangarh, located in the Aravalli hills in Rajasthan, Jaipur district, India will open in the first quarter of 2017, according to Alila Hotels and Resorts.

Alila Fort Bishangarh will be the hotel group’s second property in India, the first being Alila Diwa Goa which was opened in 2010, said the Alila Hotels and Resorts in a statement today.

A 230-year-old defensive fortress, Fort Bishangarh has since undergone seven years of restoration and will now have 59 suites and is “thought to be one of the only warrior forts of its kind to be converted into a unique heritage resort of this stature”.

“It has a remarkable presence, sitting up high on a granite hill with staggering 360-degree views of the Rajasthani landscape, surrounded by hills and dotted with villages, *havelis and temples.

“This imposing structure is fortified by two-metre thick stone walls and majestic turrets with wonderfully intricate arched windows and **jaalis — a perfect example of the Jaipur Gharana architecture influenced by both the Mughals and the British,” said the hotel group.

"The use of traditional materials in a contemporary manner is the basic design ethos."

The new structure — created above and outside the old fort — houses four different categories of suites and the come in 22 different layouts.

Rates at Alila Fort Bishangarh start from US$400 (RM1,770) per room per night.
