KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 27): The Genting Group is seeking fresh approval from US authorities to build three towers for a planned casino in Florida after the earlier approval expired, the Miami Herald reported yesterday.

“On Monday, Genting asked the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to reapprove plans to build three 649 ft (198m) towers, federal records show. The FAA approved the towers in 2013, but that approval expired on Jan 10,” the report said.

Genting had bought in 2011 the US$236 million (RM1.05 billion) bayfront property which was once owned by the Miami Herald.

“The towers are not expected to [be built] anytime soon. Art Miami (the city’s premier art fair) recently said it had struck a deal to set up its tent on the site for the next several years,” said the Miami Herald.

“The company would need a rewrite of Florida gaming laws to build a casino,” added the report, noting that Genting also wants to build a marina on the property.
