Study Room

PETALING JAYA (Feb 17): Singapore’s United Square shopping mall has transformed 592 sq ft of retail space into a study area for students to do their homework, revision and discussions.

Owned and managed by Singapore-listed property company UOL Group Ltd, United Square shopping mall aims to provide a conducive environment for students to study in, UOL assistant general manager (Advertising & Promotions) Patricia Kwek said in a statement today.

“We have put in conscious effort into the design of The Study Room to achieve this objective,” she said.

The space was conceptualised by a student who previously attended enrichment classes at the centre.

This is in line with UOL’s commitment to provide shoppers with more than just a regular shopping experience.

“I used to study at F&B outlets when I was preparing for my ‘O’ levels. The lighting was inadequate, and from time to time, I will be asked to leave. This space that I have designed provides a cosy feel for students who prefer to study out of their homes. You get to enjoy the best of both worlds, out of the house, in a mall where food and drinks are easily available,” said the 16 year old.

Besides being well equipped with tables, comfortable seats and cheerful messages to encourage students to persevere, The Study Room also has a “de-stress” corner for students to have some fun in-between swotting for selfies or wefies.

The Study Room is the latest initiative by United Square, which has a niche positioning of being a mall for children, to bring more value to its shoppers. The pro-family mall has dedicated space for amenities such as a reading room as well as relax and play corners.

It is also the first shopping mall in Singapore to provide prime retail space for a spacious nursing room for mothers that comes with a comprehensive range of facilities, including three lockable cubicles, hot and cold water dispensers, feeding area and a cosy waiting area for fathers.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, more value-added facilities will be introduced by the mall.
