UMLand J-Biotech Park to attract foreign investors to Johor Halal Park

PETALING JAYA (March 9): UMLand J-Biotech Park Sdn Bhd (UJP), a joint venture between United Malayan Land Bhd (UMLand) and the Johor state government, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The Cosmetic & Perfumery Association of Hong Kong Ltd and Persatuan Anggun Menawan Malaysia to bring in potential investors from Hong Kong, Macau and China to Johor Halal Park (JHP) in Pasir Gudang, Johor.

Malaysia spent about US$407 million (RM1.82 billion) on toiletries and cosmetic products and this was mainly through imports, said UJP CEO Mohd Noor Abd Salam in a press release today.

“Halal cosmetics and personal care products are being heavily promoted in the region. We hope that with this collaboration, we will provide opportunity, awareness and bring more potential cosmetics and perfume investors directly into Johor,” he said.

JHP is a joint-venture collaboration between UMLand and Johor Biotechnology & Biodiversity Corporation (J-Biotech), which is a company 100%-owned by the Johor state government. The park will be the 25th Halal Park in Malaysia and the first Halal Park operating exclusively for 100% Halal business.

Working together with the Halal Development Corporation, JHP has been approved with HALMAS certification since December 2016 for its first 103-acre phase 1 development.
