KUALA LUMPUR (May 22): The Asia Young Designer Award 2017 (AYDA 2017) is now open for entries.

Aimed at architecture and interior design students, the final date of entry for the competition is Oct 3, 2017.

AYDA, which is into its 10th edition this year, was initiated by Nippon Paint Malaysia in collaboration with IJM Land Bhd and has attracted over 4,500 participants from Malaysia since its introduction in 2008. It has extended its reach to 15 countries across Asia, namely Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Thailand, Pakistan, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India and Sri Lanka.

“We hope the themes of AYDA that revolve around the latest trends of ‘real world’ needs will continue to convince youths to push beyond the boundaries, paving the way for them to do something bigger than themselves, and yet embrace humility to understand the concept of responsibility to the environment and the community in the process,” said Nippon Paint Malaysia group general manager Gladys Goh at the celebration of AYDA’s 10th year anniversary as well as the rollout of the AYDA 2017 competition theme — “You for Tomorrow: Future Living as Envisioned Today”.

“The award has proven that the creative industry abounds with talent and continues to break new ground year after year. We are really pleased to be collaborating with Nippon Paint again this year on this competition, as we too see the need to create stronger bonds between design education and industry,” said Edward Chong, managing director of IJM Land, AYDA’s collaborating partner.

The culmination of AYDA takes place at the Regional Learning Programme in Malaysia, which plays host this year in celebration of AYDA’s 10th year milestone.

It will play host to the gold winners from each of the 15 competing countries who will be here for the coveted regional finals of the Platinum Award with US$1,000 (RM4,300) prize each for the Architecture and Interior Design categories.

Participants of this Regional Learning Programme can further enhance their communication and presentation skills including cross-border experiences and knowledge exchange from fellow peers of various cultural backgrounds and key-industry speakers as well as coaching sessions.

AYDA is supported by various government bodies and industry associations such as the Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Malaysian Institute of Architects, Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association Youth Malaysia, Malaysia Green Building Confederation, and the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia.
