KUALA LUMPUR (May 30): Tan Sri Rastam Isa has retired from his position as independent and non-executive chairman of property developer Tropicana Corp Bhd.

He was appointed as chairman of Tropicana in April 2014, according to a Bursa Malaysia filing today.

Prior to that, he had spent over 36 years as a diplomat, starting as an officer attached to foreign ministry in April 1974. In 2005, he served as the ministry's deputy secretary-general and was appointed secretary-general in 2006.

He served in various capacities in the ministry and Malaysian diplomatic missions abroad until his retirement in 2010. Subsequently, he served as an adviser to the Chief Minister's Department, Sarawak, until 2013.

Currently, Rastam is the chairman and chief executive of Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia, the country's premier think tank. He also sits on the board of Batu Kawan Bhd as an independent and non-executive director.

Tropicana's share price fell 1 sen or 1.02% to close at 97 sen, giving a market capitalisation of RM1.42 billion. — theedgemarkets.com
