KUALA LUMPUR (July 4): The Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association (REHDA) is targeting to achieve RM1 billion in sales from around 100,000 units ranging not more than RM500,000 at its upcoming 3-day Affordable Housing Carnival — Malaysia Property Expo (MAPEX) from Aug 11 to Aug 13, 2017.

The carnival will be held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre, Selangor, and expects to see visitor count of about 100,000 people, according to MAPEX Committee Chairman and REHDA patron Datuk Ng Seing Liong at a media briefing today.

Ng said the carnival will also for the first time be hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government (KPKT), the government’s first initiative to collaborate in a housing exposition.

“REHDA is honoured to work with KPKT to organise this carnival as part of our efforts to encourage home ownership and it is our pleasure to share that the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, as well as KPKT’s minister Tan Sri Noh Omar will grace the carnival on Saturday Aug 12, 2017,” Ng said.

It is understood that in collaboration with the government, the carnival will seek to gather the feedback via surveys on the public’s needs for affordable housing, which is expected to be tabled for review in conjunction with government’s upcoming Budget 2018 on Oct 27, 2017.

“The carnival will be like a testing platform for the government to assess the current situation of housing needs. The aim of the carnival is to be a one-stop centre for purchasers to find affordable housing,” KPKT’s deputy director general Jayasena K. Navaratnam said.

REHDA anticipates more than 60 developers and government agencies, as well as financial institutions, to take part in the carnival.

Among the developers who have confirmed their participation so far are Glomac Bhd, IJM Land Bhd, MKH Bhd, UEM Sunrise Bhd, Mitraland Group, Matrix Concepts Holding Bhd and several agencies under the National Housing Department.

Cash rebates of up to RM30,000 will also be up for grabs at the carnival, as well as bumiputera discounts offered on selected properties. — theedgemarkets.com
