SHAH ALAM (July 18): Property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd (EcoWorld) has launched its Johor chapter of the EcoWorld Toastmasters Club.

Formed in June this year, the EcoWorld Johor Toastmasters Club (EWTC Johor) follows the setting up EWTC Klang Valley and EWTC Penang, which were established in April 2014 and June 2014 respectively.

The employees-only club forms part of EcoWorld’s holistic talent development programme, which takes its cue from Toastmasters International (of which EcoWorld is a member), a non-profit educational organisation that teaches public speaking and leadership skills with a strong network of 345,000 members from 15,900 clubs in 142 countries.

With the formation of EWTC Johor, its third EcoWorld Toastmasters Club, the total number of club members now stands at 70.

EcoWorld president and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Chang Khim Wah said it was important for every employee to possess the ability to speak and communicate effectively and confidently.

“Many individuals struggle with public speaking, but with Toastmasters, we hope to empower Team EcoWorld with a strong voice so they can perform confidently in the professional world as well as in a social setting,” he told reporters at the launch of EWTC Johor yesterday.

“It is important that we provide a positive learning environment for our members. For the existing members, your next step forward is to be able to speak from the heart and present great content, and, for the new members, please put your heart into it, to learn to structure your messages as EcoWorld will need each and every employee to stand up, be heard and carry the company’s image well,” Chang added.

The toastmasters clubs hold regular monthly meetings and participation in club, area and division contests.

Notably, the Klang Valley chapter has bagged the Toastmasters International President’s Distinguished Club award for two years in a row (2015/2016 and 2016/2017).

Among the 10 goals set forth by the annual Distinguished Club Programme, the President’s Distinguished Club is the highest recognition to be bestowed on participating clubs.
