PUTRAJAYA (Aug 16): Former Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad (pictured) was remanded for five days from today to assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its probe into the purchase of a posh hotel by Felda Investment Corp (FIC) in Kensington, London, between 2014 and 2015, Bernama reported today.

The MACC had actually sought seven days remand for Isa but Federal Court chief registrar Zainal Abidin Kamarudin granted the five-day remand following a protest by Isa's lawyer, the malaysiakini news portal reported.

Isa was represented by six lawyers led by Datuk K Kumaraendran, while the other lawyers were Dev Kumaraendran, Ridha Ahdar Subry, Datuk Khairul Anwar Rahmat, Lavina Kumarendran and Datuk N Sivananthan.

DPP Tengku Amir Zaki Tengku Abdul Rahman appeared for the MACC.

Kumaraendran said the defence had objected to the MACC remand application because Isa had volunteered cooperate with the MACC, Bernama reported.

He also asked for the remand application to be rejected as Isa was suffering from a heart ailment.

The judge, however, indicated that proper medical attention will be given during the remand period, Kumaraendran told the news portal FMT.

Isa was arrested yesterday after he had gone to anti-graft body’s HQ here to give a statement.

His house was also raided by the MACC last night following his arrest.

FIC is reported to have bought a four-star hotel in Kensington, London in December 2014 for RM330 million, which allegedly was three times the actual price of the property.
