KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 25): Civil and building construction work firm Lebtech Bhd’s unit has been slapped with a winding-up petition by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) over about RM1 million in unpaid taxes.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Lebtech said wholly-owned Lebtech Construction Sdn Bhd had received the winding-up petition through a letter dated Oct 16.

The group said the IRB had earlier granted the subsidiary up to Nov 30 to settle the outstanding sum, and therefore “the petition was filed before the due date”.

The management has made partial payment amounting to RM350,000 since June 15, leaving a balance of RM651,010, it added.

The group said its management is taking steps to resolve the matter amicably.

Last month, IRB chief executive officer Datuk Sabin Samitah said the tax authority had launched “Ops Dakwa” aimed at cracking down on large companies, including public listed companies, that have defaulted on tax payments.
