Liew Kee Sin

NILAI (Nov 15): Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin, who received his honorary doctorate of entrepreneurship from INTI International University today, said his university education in Malaysia helped him "see things in a different manner" to become a prominent corporate figure today.

Liew, who is Eco World Development Group Bhd chairman, said he had graduated from University Malaya in 1981. Today, he said in his doctorate acceptance speech that university education then had given him a "good background" to build his career.

"When I first graduated from University Malaya in 1981, my mother and father [were] crying because I was the first boy from my village to go to university. I had the opportunity to see things in a different manner; my education in Malaysia gave me a good background," he said.

Today, Liew received his doctorate from INTI chancellor Tan Sri Arshad Ayub during the university's convocation ceremony here.

Arshad said: "Liew's conferment with the honorary doctorate of entrepreneurship truly illustrates his service in the property development landscape, his commitment to the growth of the nation, both economically and socially, and his continued belief in excellence, team spirit and commitment to drive community enrichment." — theedgemarkets.com
