PETALING JAYA (Nov 24): The Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government plan to redevelop old densely-populated housing areas which are seen as no longer suitable for current needs, said its minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.

In a Bernama report, he said the redevelopment would involve one-room flats.

“We want to redevelop old housing areas,” he said at a press conference after opening the Local Authorities Consultative Committee Meeting 2017 at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).

"A congress will be held in January (2018) to discuss it. Since about 70% of the population live in urban areas, the ministry has to plan for the people’s comfort,” he added.

According to him, the redevelopment can be modelled after Kerinchi Residensi, the former Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor flats in Kerinchi.
