KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 26): Working mothers at Sime Darby Property Bhd will be entitled to 90 calendar days of paid maternity leave under the group's new family benefit programme.

Currently, they are entitled to 60 days of paid maternity leave.

In a statement, Sime Daby Property said it will also allow shorter working hours for expectant mothers to leave the workplace one-and-a-half hours early during the last trimester (seventh month onwards), allowing for more rest time and a healthy pregnancy.

In addition, the enhanced programme allows new fathers, seven calendar days of paternity leave, up from three days now.

For employees who are tying the knot, they will be entitled to three working days of marriage leave under the new family benefits. "Previously, they are required to apply for compassionate leave to get married. This is now separated as a special leave category," Sime Darby Property said.

Group managing director Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin said the move to introduce the new family benefit programme reflects its understanding of changing family dynamics and the evolving needs of its workforce. "We constantly seek to improve our benefits based on feedback from our employees and by being sensitive towards their different needs and preferences.”

Sime Darby Property shares closed unchanged at RM1.58 today, with 5.86 million shares done, bringing it to a market capitalisation of RM10.54 billion.— theedgemarkets.com
