Handicapped man dies in Ipoh fire

KUALA LUMPUR (April 9): A physically handicapped man died in a fire in his house at Taman Menglembu Timur, Ipoh, last night.

Bernama reported that that the remains of Chan Kwai Wah, 57, was found next to the back door of his home.

It is believed that he attempted to get out of the house to safety but failed to do so. He was lame in the leg.

Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue operations chief, Mohamed Hariri Ahmad Shaibi said 21 personnel from his station and Ipoh and 23 volunteer firefighters from Pasir Pinji, Pekan Baru and Bercham arrived at the scene after an emergency call at 11.12 pm and found the kitchen on fire, Bernama reported.

The fire was controlled by 1.21 am.

Chan’s body has been handed to the police for investigations.
