KUALA LUMPUR (April 20): Neram 1 Felda’s second generation of settlers have been given housing subsidy of RM30,000 by the Barisan Nasional government to help them buy their own homes.

So far, 105 houses have been constructed via the Felda New Generation Housing Project for the settlers.

Neram 1 Felda head Ismail Mohamad told Bernama that 60 of the homes were medium-cost units priced at RM120,000 each while another 45 homes were of the low-cost type valued at RM90,000.

That means with the housing subsidy provided, the settlers only need to pay RM90,000 for the medium-cost unit and just RM60,000 for the low-cost home.

Ismail told Bernama he never imagined that the settlers would enjoy such a good life today when they first opened up Neram 1 Felda back in 1972.

“We came to this palm oil plantation opened up by the government with just the basic necessities, carrying our little children, and [with] just one thing on our mind, survival.

"Our hard work and the various programmes planned by the government for Felda settlers’ development have enabled us to live comfortably like other people,” he said.

Neram is in Terengganu.
