PETALING JAYA (June 1):  Sarawakian tycoon Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing will submit a fresh proposal for the RM30 billion Langkawi New City project to the Kedah state government, reported Bernama.

According to him, the project – which will come up on 81ha of reclaimed land at the west of the island – will be northern Peninsular Malaysia’s largest.

“Whatever the State government requests we will comply, as we have done in the past with (previous) State governments,” he said in response to Kedah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir's statement earlier today that the state government had not received a proposal yet from Ting.

Mukhriz said while the 75-year-old developer had approached him during his first tenure as Chief Minister over the project, the proposal was not considered by the state as it was not followed with a deposit.

However, Ting claimed that he was not aware that a deposit was required to submit development proposals to the state government.

“I don’t know. This is a billion-dollar project and what deposit do they want? They should let the developer spend the money on the job and not keep the deposit in the bank,” he said.
