PETALING JAYA (June 11): The 25-year old The Datai Langkawi resort will reopen in September 10 this year after completing 12 months of renovation works, including the overhaul of the interior and exterior of the resort worth US$60 million (RM238.98 million).

The Datai Langkawi resort general manager Arnaud Girodon said the renovation project is led by Didier Lefort of award-winning Paris-based design studio DL2A, who was the original interior designer of the resort back in 1993.

“Embarking on such a renovation project with very limited impact to our rich natural surroundings and award-winning architecture has proven to be quite the challenge but one we have been immensely proud of embracing. Looking forward to welcoming our guests back to the incomparable new Datai Langkawi,” he said in a press statement today.

Girodon noted that there has been a complete overhaul of the interiors of the guestrooms, suites, villas and public spaces, which according to him are all designed with simplicity and Lefort’s unique style which is true to its origins.

The use of local materials and inspiration from the environment, surroundings and culture, along with the ‘Datai DNA’ are at the core of the resort’s vision, ensuring regular guests still feel very much at home when they return while delighting new visitors.

Situated on the northwest tip of Langkawi island, The Datai Langkawi resort is located in a 10 million-year old rainforest rich in wildlife and overlooking the tranquil Datai Bay, which has been recognised by National Geographic as one of the world’s Top 10 beaches.

All of the 121 rooms, villas and suites at The Datai Langkawi, including the five-bedroom The Datai Estate, offer breathtaking views of the surrounding nature.

Girodon said three Rainforest Pool Villas have been added during the renovation period, located along the Datai River running through the 750ha rainforest, featuring an impressive deck and pool overlooking crystal clear waters.

“The new five-bedroom The Datai Estate spanning over 3,500 sq m will be one of the largest villas of its kind in Asia, comprising spacious living rooms, games rooms, two 20m connected pools, 24-hour butler service as well as a private chef,” he added.

Meanwhile, international podiatrist Bastien Gonzalez will also open his first studio in Malaysia at the resort.
