PETALING JAYA (June 14): Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) will make plans to demolish fugitive Umno leader Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos’ restaurant in Kuala Lumpur as soon as it gets the go-ahead from the Federal Territories Land and Mines Office (PTG).

According to KL mayor Tan Sri Mohd Nordin Abdul Aziz, DBKL will take action after receiving the directive from PTG, but so far it has not received any letter or instructions yet, reported The Malaysian Insight.

PTG had earlier this month issued an eviction notice to Restoran Gabungan NGO 1Malaysia on Jalan Pahang for “squatting” on public land.

"They [the restaurant] have been operating illegally on PTG land, and they [PTG] have issued a notice. So, by right, they [the restaurant] have to move.

“When we carry out enforcement, PTG will be present.”

Jamal – who heads the Umno Sungai Besar division – was given until Monday to move out, or he may be fined RM500,000 and jailed for up to five years.

However, he has pleaded for extra time to move out as he is looking for a new location to house the restaurant’s equipment.

“All our staff are also on leave for Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which falls on Friday [June 15],”

He said the restaurant was opened to lighten the financial load of residents by giving them free lunches.

"Our party has never taken any profit during the restaurant's operations,” he said.

Jamal, who is currently on the run from the authorities, is also running for the Umno Youth president post in the upcoming party polls.
