PETALING JAYA (June 14): The Public Works Department (JKR) has given the nod and road-users around Setia Alam will enjoy smoother traffic flow by year-end. The Persiaran Setia Alam, which currently has two lanes on each direction, will get an additional lane on each side, making it a six-lane carriageway.

The RM13 million project is part of development order of the Setia Alam township by S P Setia Bhd, Shah Alam City Councillor Simon Siow told The Star Metro yesterday.

“S P Setia is required to upgrade the road facilities once 85% of their land parcel is developed. They have successfully developed 90%, but the road project was delayed because they did not receive approval from KJR earlier,” he added.

The widening will stretch 3km from the Setia Alam Timur interchange to Jalan Meru. Known as a busy road, especially between the peak hours of 5pm and 10pm, the road widening will also benefit residents from Klang, Meru and Kapar who use the connection to reach Kuala Lumpur.

Two pedestrian bridges will also be built near the Setia Alam Welcome Centre towards Persiaran Setia Dagang, and Jalan Setia Prima S U13/S towards Petronas station.

“I sent an official letter to JKR in 2016 to allow the Shah Alam City Council to build the pedestrian bridge, but I haven’t received a response,” adding that many people cross the Persiaran Setia Alam on a daily basis.

Siow said he did not expect major traffic disruption. Nevertheless, an alternative route to Setia Alam town is the Persiaran Setia Damai near Eco Ardence.
