PETALING JAYA (June 29): Companies must pay more for electricity beginning July 1 to December 2018 due to a surcharge for higher fuel and generation costs, said Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

According to TNB, the base tariff stays at 39.45kWh but the higher fuel and generation costs from January to June 30 this year amounted to RM698.19 million or 1.35 sen per kWh, which will pass through via the imbalance cost pass-through (ICPT) mechanism, reported The Star.

However, households will not be affected, with those using less than 300kWh per month not required to pay the surcharge, while surcharges for homes exceeding the monthly usage amount will be borne by Kumpulan Wang Industri Elektrik (KWIE).
