PETALING JAYA (July 13): All seven Barisan Nasional (BN) representatives on the advisory board of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) have resigned after receiving their formal letters, reported The Malaysian Insight.

The letter had requested political appointees and those sitting on the federal territories statutory body including advisory boards to leave on their own accord, said MCA’s Ng How Doo.

He added that the reps had agreed to quit as the request had come through the proper channel and the government no longer needed their services.

The appointees will be replaced by Kuala Lumpur lawmakers, according to the portal.

However, Ng said Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz has told the representatives that they could still share their suggestions and feedback about issues in KL.

Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad had earlier called for all BN representatives on DBKL’s advisory board to step down at once.

The first of the BN board members to resign were MIC’s S Rajah who tendered his resignation to the mayor on May 5 – a move lauded by the minister.

He was followed by Ng, Ahmad Faisal Abdul Karim (Umno), Mustapa Kamal Mohd Yusoff (Umno), Rizalman Mokhtar (Umno), Zainal Abidin Mohd Rafique (Umno), Wilson Lau Hoi Keong (Gerakan) and A Samalah (MyPPP).

The BN representatives were appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the previous Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor for a term of two years from 2017.
